Prevention
-
Our primary dedication is to the preservation of oral health. We know how to control dental disease and to help you understand destructive bacterial activity. When you understand it, you can control it. prevention of dental disease is one of our primary goals.

We know things that we didn't know... even just a few years ago. One of the things that we have learned, for example, is that we can not control dental disease with a toothbrush alone, no matter how often we use it.

We know, however, that dental disease can be controlled if we control bacterial plaque activity on a daily basis. Indeed, we place great emphasis on prevention.

Preventive Recall Visits
-
It is our joint responsibility to see that dentistry is properly cared for after completion to insure that dental health is maintained. Therefore, we maintain a well organized preventive recall system.

Together we will determine the time interval between recall appointments. It is usually gauged by how extensive past problems have been. Regular preventive recall visits promote superior dental health.

Diagnosis
-
In order to prevent dental disease, the active disease must be evaluated and eliminated. Therefore, we must have a complete picture of your present oral conditions, as well as insight into your dental and medical history.

At the examination appointment, we would like to get acquainted with you. We will make a thorough evaluation of existing and potential problems. We will take necessary x-rays and examine the oral tissues for decay and gum/bone disease. If a malocclusion is present or developing, we may take diagnostic impressions. The resultant diagnosis will help us predict future dental health.

As physicians of the entire mouth and surrounding structures it is our responsibility as dentists to know about all aspects of oral health; for example:

  1. Occlusion, or bite
  2. Decay
  3. Periodontal or gum disease
  4. Malocclusion or bad bite
  5. Tempromandibular joint problems
  6. The need for replacement, either fixed, removal, or implant dentistry

So, you see, it is not just a matter of detecting decay, but a matter of multiple numbers of things to look at when your primary focus is being thorough, conscientious, and detailed.

Your complete exam appointment includes a panoramic film (or scan film), a complete x-ray series, study models, and also digital photography. We will be happy to provide you a copy of the digital photos. The above items help you learn more of the detail with regard to your dental needs.
